President Trump, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Charles Schumer (D-NY) Clash in the Oval Office over Border Wall.
President Donald Trump met with Democratic leaders Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) in the Oval Office where Trump vowed to shut down the government if no agreement could be reached on border security, including funding a wall along the US-Mexico border.
During an extraordinary public exchange, Trump said “If we don’t get what we want … we will shut down the government.”
During the public spat, Schumer accused the president of throwing a “temper tantrum.”
The three leaders raised voices, interrupted each other and pointed fingers.
Pelosi repeatedly asked the president to take the encounter off-camera but it continued for nearly 20 minutes before Trump ejected the media.
Trump wants $5 billion for the wall in 2019 while Democrats are offering only $1.3 billion.
Pelosi told Trump the House would not even be able to pass his $5 billion wall bill, but Trump insisted the House could but it would be pointless because it would not pass the Senate.
